Verified Beef Production Program - The Verified Beef ProductionTM (VBP) program is designed to help you provide the necessary documentation assuring that safe food practices are applied on your operation. This program is completely voluntary and helps you verify (and provide proof) the excellent practices you already use on your ranch or farm. This program shows your buyers that food safety is a daily commitment on your operation. This is a national standards program, voluntary to producers, verified by an accredited third party and audited by a recognized authority.
The VBP Producer Manual has been built around the concept of proactive management regarding potential food safety hazards. The international food safety standard called “HACCP” (pronounced haa-sip) has been adjusted to apply to beef cattle operations. Technical aspects of the program have been reviewed and recognized as sound by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Many of the practices in the short 26 page manual are designed to complement what goes on in beef cattle operations across the country – and perhaps provide a few new ideas to improve the care of beef cattle.
As the program is voluntary, you can choose to implement all or some of the practices, or go the next step which is an on-farm audit to help you provide proof that you are meeting the national and industry recognized program requirements
